Washing every other day gives the scalp a meaningful recovery window that daily washing does not. Twenty-four hours between washes allows the scalp's moisture barrier to begin repairing, sebum to distribute a short distance from the scalp, and any mild irritation from the previous wash to subside before the next one.

For most hair types, every-other-day washing also aligns reasonably well with the natural pace of oil production. The Off-Day Routine
