Hairstory's Wes and Camila — Head of Pro Onboarding — walk hairdressers through everything they need to know in this Hairstory 101 training session. The class covers how to choose the right New Wash formula for each client, the detergent-free ASMR washing method, and a full tour of the styling lineup including Hair Balm, Styling Gel, Undressed, Bond Serum, and more. Camila then breaks down the Hairstory Pro affiliate program — including the 25% recurring commission structure, client referral links, and the three-step "wash, show, share" approach that sets pros up for success with online retail.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between New Wash Original, Rich, and Deep?
New Wash (Original) is the balanced formula designed for clients who aren't too oily and don't need extra moisture — it's the sweet spot for normal hair. New Wash (Rich) is formulated for clients whose hair feels thirsty and needs more moisture, such as those with dry, coarse, or color-treated hair. New Wash (Deep) is designed for clients who produce excess oil, including daily washers, and delivers a higher level of cleansing while remaining 100% detergent-free.
  • How do you use New Wash? What is the ASMR method?
The ASMR method is Hairstory's four-step process for applying New Wash. First, Apply the cream cleanser from scalp to ends, as you would a mask. Second, Splash a small amount of water into the hair to emulsify the formula into a milky consistency. Third, Massage it thoroughly through the hair and scalp to distribute and activate the formula. Fourth, Rinse with the same level of intention you'd use when rinsing out a single-process color service.
  • Is New Wash color safe?
Yes, New Wash is color safe. Because it is completely detergent-free and sulfate-free, it cleanses the hair without stripping color the way traditional shampoos can.
  • What is Pre-Wash and when should you use it?
Pre-Wash is a pre-cleansing scalp treatment for clients who have product buildup or silicone residue, or who simply like to clarify occasionally. It uses micellar water technology to grab excess buildup and contains prebiotics to feed the scalp microbiome. It's applied before New Wash, worked in for a few minutes, then rinsed before following up with New Wash — and it is 100% detergent-free.
  • How does the Hairstory Pro affiliate program work?
Hairstory Pro members receive a personal client referral link that earns 25% commission on every sale made through it. A client only needs to use the link once to be connected to that pro for life — meaning even if they reorder directly on hairstory.com without the link, the pro still earns commission. Payouts are issued every second Monday of the month via PayPal or direct deposit, and can be managed through the affiliate dashboard when logged into a pro account.
  • What discount do clients get when they use a hairdresser's referral link?
Clients receive 15% off their first purchase when they shop through a Hairstory Pro's referral link. After that first purchase, they are permanently connected to that pro's account, so the hairdresser continues to earn commission on all future orders — even if the client shops directly without the link.
  • What is Bond Serum and how is it different from Bond Boost for New Wash?
Both products use Hairstory's ProTarget technology to locate and repair damage across all three hair bonds. Bond Boost for New Wash is a treatment that gets mixed directly into eight ounces of New Wash before application. Bond Serum, by contrast, is a leave-in product applied after washing. Hairstory chose to preserve the potency of Bond Serum's raw ingredients rather than mask them with added fragrance.
  • How do I find the Hairstory Pro video library and affiliate dashboard?
You need to be logged into your Hairstory Pro account at hairstory.com — click the login button and select Pro to access the pro portal. Once logged in, the affiliate dashboard is typically the first page that appears, where you can find your commission balance, referral links, and payout settings. The video library, class calendar, and other pro tools are also accessible through the side navigation tabs in the pro account.
