Eli Halliwell, Hairstory CEO remembers the exact day he quit shampoo: November 22, 2014. In fact, Eli was so taken by New Wash that he quit his Wall Street job as well, and teamed up with Michael Gordon and Mauricio Bellora to make Hairstory a sustainably successful venture. “I like to create things,” he writes. “I like thinking about possibility, opportunity, potential. But in the last decade or so, I’ve become very concerned about the future for humanity, and for my family. Maybe it is just what happens when you have kids. Maybe it is the inevitable result of watching the world poison itself and carry on as if nothing is wrong. But I’ve remained an optimist about each day while becoming deeply pessimistic about our world. I no longer feel comfortable trusting the institutions we’ve been told to put our faith in. I don’t think they are equipped to stave off disasters – political, economic, environmental, existential. Hairstory is something that can sustain my family and exist in the ether, independent of everything else. And the beauty of our business model is that we are creating the same kind of independence for hairdressers from the institutions that govern their lives.”
