Lucy, our photographer, is constantly venturing outside the Studio scouting for style – sadly, it seems that even Manhattanites are dressing down these days – but on a recent trip to Havana she turned her lens on Cuban hair. “Hairstyles are related to age and hair texture,” she reports. “Young men are more adventurous at the barber with buzzed sides and varying lengths on top, while mature men wear precise and manicured cuts, especially if hair is afro-textured. The tropical climate requires headwear – classic straw western styles or baseball caps for men, and African head wraps worn with Spanish, rumba-style dresses for the women entertaining tourists in the Old City.”
